Coming off the Turnpike only to brake
in the crawl of Holland Tunnel traffic, there's little entertainment in
the concrete valley of billboards and storage centers.
Stare
long enough and you'll start to notice the faded graffiti tagged
along the top floors of some surrounding factories, like the crude white
letters spelling KAWS on two sides of a rooftop at
13th and Coles.

WINDSOR, Ont. — Unsightly graffiti is being replaced with
colourful murals by a group of young spray painters who have found a new
artistic outlet.
Marco Boskovic and his team now create
thoughtfully planned-out pieces of art.
"There are a lot of kids
out there who are in a lot of trouble because of this kind of stuff and
the only reason is because they have nowhere else to paint," said
Boskovic, 22.
The alley behind ICI Paints on Tecumseh Road East

The anonymous graffiti artist Banksy has
popped up again, and this time maybe he's been captured on CCTV.
OMG apparently there's a new Banksy! No, we don't mean another anonymous vaguely
anti-establishment fellow with a spray can and stencils; we mean
Banksy's done another work, this time in the garden of the Princess of Wales in Primrose Hill. It depicts a
lion looking at a girl holding a heart-shaped ballloon – profound as
ever.

A number of arrests for graffiti have recently been made by a
special anti-vandalism unit in the 49th Precinct. Vandalism is bad
enough, but what might be especially disturbing to some is that the
young people arrested already have lengthy rap sheets for graffiti and
are vandalizing property close to their own homes.
The transit
vandal squad made arrests of two young men in an area that police
officers recently volunteered to help clean of graffiti. The brazenness
and long rap sheets is... Continue reading ...
Shepard Fairey hasn't always been considered the street
artist's Street Artist (in the way Burt Reynolds is a Man's Man). The
meld between Fairey's multi-million dollar clothing company and the
propagandist graffiti he does irks the hell out of many "true" graffiti
artists (it could also have something to do with this ad
campaign he did for Saks last year). Which leads us to the subject
of this post: Since...
